What is a UPVC door panel?
Let's get straight to the point. A UPVC door panel is an infill for your actual UPVC door. The panel itself is not a door, rather it is an infill which is fitted inside the sash profile.
Let's explain this without technical jargon. You have a door frame that is screwed into the wall. Then, inside that you have the part that opens and closes like a typical internal door. Then, inside that, you have the panel.
The UPVC door panel is a separate item to the actual UPVC door.
What is a UPVC door panel made of?
A UPVC door panel is made using a "sandwich" technique. The external faces of the UPVC panel are made of UPVC skins, which holds different forms of material within it. Typically this is either foam only, partial MDF board, or full MDF solid board. The photo below shows the outer skins, then the foam, and finally with a 4mm MDF board to improve the panel's security feature.
Can I replace my existing UPVC door panel without the need of replacing the whole door?
In most cases, the answer is yes. If you have a UPVC door with already an existing design panel, or a fully glazed pane (not half), then you may be able to replace your existing panel or the glass unit without having to replace your door. You will, however, need to check that your door has beading around the panel or glass unit. The beading needs to be removable in order to take out the old panel/glass and replace it with a new one.
What UPVC panel designs are available?
Design can vary from company to company as well as time to time. Design is constantly evolving thanks to developing technology. Nowadays there are thousands and thousands of designs on the international market.
In addition to panel design, there also other design considerations. For example, glass design and hardware colour. Again, with these variations in mind, the design choice is virtually limitless.

What should be considered when choosing a UPVC door panel?
Whether you are buying a UPVC door panel for your brand new UPVC door, or you are replacing old ones, there are some things to consider.
1. SIZE: The first and most important thing to keep in mind is the over size. Check that the uncut panel size is not too small or too big for your UPVC door. If the panel is too small, it obviously won't cover your door, allowing easy access in and out. If the panel is too big, then you run the risk of any moulding or glass features running into the frame and thereby messing up the whole appearance. Check that your new panel will sit comfortably into the door after cutting to size.
2. GLAZING OPTIONS: Depending on where you buy your UPVC door panel, you may be able to choose from a range of glazing option. These can be simple and contemporary, but they can also be traditional and complicated in design and colour. Be sure to choose the style of glass, if applicable, that best suites the style of your home.
3. HARDWARE: Our UPVC door panels are supplied without hardware. However, provided you have a "hands-on" experience in some DIY work, you can source hardware such as letterplates, spyholes and knockers to suite your UPVC door panel design. Again, hardware is available in a variety of fininshes including white, black, satin silver, polished chrome and gold. This will depend where you source the hardware from.
4. SECURITY: Nowadays, security is an important factor which homeowners take into consideration. There are a number of options to choose from when it comes to enhancing the security of your door in the form of strengthening your UPVC door panel. The majority of UPVC door panels in the market are only foam-filled for the purpose of keeping costs low. Whilst this may keep costs low, it compromises the strength of your door panel. In contrast to this, with only a few pounds extra, our UPVC door panels have 4mm MDF board inside the "sandwich" to enhance the panel's strength. This makes it more difficult to kick in.
